The kitchen is the workhorse of a home, and the area of a house where water is used extensively. Without an effective plumbing system, working in the kitchen will be very inconvenient. Much relies on water sources apart from the kitchen sink, as most appliances in the kitchen have its own water source too – the dishwasher, the refrigerator, and the in-house filtration system among others.
And with regular kitchen use, wear and tear of plumbing fixtures can definitely be expected. A misuse here and there could lead to plumbing issues, or an eventual plumbing emergency.
So what are the most common kitchen plumbing problems?
Plumbing website, ThePlumbingInfo.com has shared a list of the most common plumbing concerns experienced by homeowners. One of the issues mentioned in their list is a clogged sink drain. International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials
“Clogged Drain Lines – This is another common issue when it comes to your kitchen sink plumbing. If you have a garbage disposal you are much more prone to clogged drain lines connected to your kitchen sink. Most homeowners do not use adequate water to flush waste down the garbage disposal so food pieces can easily build up in the pipe under the sink. This will prevent water from draining properly.”

Problematic Faucets
Home Improvement website DenGarden.com also mentioned the most common plumbing issues residential property owners encounter. Leaky faucets was part of the plumbing problems that they discussed. California Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association
“Dripping faucets are so common that it’s rare to find someone who hasn’t experienced this issue. It’s not just a source of irritation, the waste of water can push up your water bill and cost you money. A single faucet can drip away hundreds of gallons over the course of a year. The cause of dripping faucets in most cases is an internal washer that has become stiff, torn, worn, or dislodged over time.”

Garbage Disposal Trouble
Home management website TheSpruce.com also came up with its own list of common plumbing issues and they mentioned a problematic garbage disposal as one of the plumbing inconveniences commonly experienced by residents. Another issue they mentioned is low water pressure.
“The first thing to check is if the low water pressure is affecting both the hot and cold water. If both the hot and cold have low pressure the most likely cause is the aerator. Calcium deposits slowly build up in the faucet aerator and reduce the water pressure. A blocked aerator is a very easy thing to fix. To clean out a faucet aerator carefully remove the aerator, clean out any debris and build up on it and put it back on.”
