When I planned my vacation in San Diego, California, I didn’t know that there were so many awesome things to do in this amazing city. I thought I would visit several museums and maybe try out the restaurants before heading back to my boring life. But San Diego is not an ordinary city. In fact it’s commonly referred to as America’s Finest City and for very good reasons. This city has some of the biggest museums in the world housing some of the finest art and cultural collections. There are also some of the finest hotels in San Diego, California. If you ever visit this city, make sure that you check out the museums in Balboa Park and the fine dining establishments in La Jolla. But there is more than art and culture in San Diego. The outdoors is amazing. The first thing that you need to know about this city is that it has the best weather in the United States. There is plenty of sunshine throughout the year and the temperatures are always fine for outdoor activities. Have a look at some of the fine outdoor activities I enjoyed in this city.
Visiting The San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is one of the finest places to be. The zoo is home to over 3,700 animals. These are different animals representing over 650 species and subspecies. The zoo is designed in such a way that the animals live in cage-less open-air spaces. It tries to recreate natural animal habitats. The zoo offers a wonderful opportunity to catch up with nature. You will be able to see and even interact with all kinds of animals in this place. Not to mention that there are great restaurants here where you can grab an excellent meal.
Hiking In The Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
This is the perfect place for nature lovers. This is like a state park where you can hike, jog, or just visit to experience the natural environment. There are over 8 miles of hiking trails. This place takes your mind away from the usual bustling city activity. It is perfectly safe and natural. You will keep your body in shape and enjoy nature when hiking at the Torrey Pines State Reserve.
There is no way I can talk about San Diego, California without thinking about Balboa Park. This is home to 15 museums. There are also numerous peaceful gardens and spaces where you can spend your day. Entry fees to Balboa Park vary but you can always buy a multiday pass to reduce the expenses. There are gardens where you can enjoy the sunshine and read a book. You can also catch all kinds of theatrical action in the many performance venues. Balboa Park offers both indoor and outdoor fun to the visitors.
Mission Bay Park
San Diego is renowned for its pristine beaches. If you really love the outdoors, then you should visit Mission Bay Park. This is a 4,200 acre park extending over 27 miles of beach shoreline. You can visit Mission Bay Park to swim or just to lie in the sand and enjoy the sun. People enjoy all kinds of ocean activities on this beach including kite boarding, kayaking, boogie boarding, and surfing. And remember the weather is always excellent for beach activities outdoor things to do in San Diego.
