Every year, I love to go and visit these beautiful botanical gardens located in San Diego, CA. The gardens are located outdoors, because the city has such beautiful weather all the time. The gardens feature several different paths you can take, meaning you can choose your own adventure. If you’d rather have things mapped out for you, it’s possible to follow a path that takes you throughout all of the gardens, if you so choose. One of the things I like best about coming here is that you can see some of the wild animals that live in the area. Birds, squirrels and other creatures call the gardens their home.
I was first introduced to the gardens when I came out to visit my friend who lives in San Diego, CA. I had never been to any type of gardens before, and I thought this would be a great way to spend the day when she suggested it. We went and paid our admission, which wasn’t very much. It was a beautiful day out, but because it was the middle of the week, it wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be. She and I went around looking at the different roses that were in bloom. Some of them didn’t have any scent, but they had the most beautiful colors that I had ever seen.
We came upon a fountain that had several different birds flying over to it and drinking from it. I noticed there were bird feeders out too, which I thought was a nice touch for a garden to have. Some people think birds cause a problem at gardens, but I actually find they are great at keeping the bugs away and making the area cleaner and prettier. There were benches around the area, so we sat down and watched the birds for a while, seeing what they would do.
We continued, knowing that there was more to see. Several tourists who hadn’t been to San Diego, CA before were congregating in the gardens, amazed at all the succulents and other vegetation out here that they normally did not get to see. I love all the tropical flowers and plants that I would be hard-pressed to see in person back home. My friend works a lot, so it isn’t every day that she gets to appreciate nature and see flowers or go somewhere fun.
As we left, we stopped at the gift shop and got beautiful prints of some of our favorite plants that were featured in the gardens. I loved visiting San Diego, CA with my friend, and I know I will make a point to come back to the gardens soon enough. I have since started going to other gardens both in my town and in other states, too. It has fostered a love of plants and nature that I want to share with others and experience in other parts of the country. No matter where I go, I always feel at home in nature.
